JASPER for JANUARY

I want to share the beauty and a bit of info of stones that I’ve searched out selected many times over: JASPER! There are many different types of Jasper in the world and it has been determined that environmental influences contribute to the colors and striations of these expressive stones.

While the pendants shown here are already owned, this is a look/see at a variety. You can be sure that I will continue to create pendants and bracelets with Jasper as the focal point.  

“Owyhee Desert Summer” Pendant

“Thinking Of What Used To Be” Pendant. Owyhee Jasper! Originating near the border of Oregon and Idaho, this stone was cut by Jay Spence, WA and set into sterling silver with sterling silver & copper accents. “Once In A Lullaby” Pendant. Gary Green Jasper! Found in eastern Oregon, iron, aluminum, potassium, sodium and calcium – along with petrified wood, cane, cattails and swamp creatures – combine to create stones that range in color from teal to lime green. “Expedition Unknown” Pendant. Biggs Jasper! This outstanding “picture” stone is from the Biggs junction area of Oregon and is an excellent choice for distinctive jewelry. Comments range from Beautiful and Beautiful to Gorgeous!

The cross is an iconic symbol for many and here are several of my original pendants created in good faith. May the holidays brighten your world, warm your heart, and light the way to a shining new year.

“Our Mission Faith” This sterling silver pendant features a Malachite stone which is known for its powerful properties that promote healing transformations as noted at https://www.energymuse.com/malachite-meaning.

This piece was acquired quickly, but Joy L Schmidgall Hagerty got in her comment: Beautiful piece!

“Simple Grace" With a turquoise stone as centerpiece this sterling silver cross pendant was designed with simple grace. In addition to the many comments of Love it and Beautiful, I wanted to share this one in particular, Lupe Padilla: Amen🙏🏻

Speaking of community – many of my neighbors came by to appreciate High Desert Creations. This is Christy who is wearing an original Kathi Turner sterling silver “Lariat Infinity” pendant with garnet stone.

Tami Wolff selected “Point The Way” – a pendant that combines an Owyhee Jasper cut by Sally Ash Blosser, a freshwater pearl, and a citrine stone.

“POINT THE WAY”

Morrie Elmer, High Desert Creations HITH guest artist for a number of years, commissioned a pair of freshwater pearl earrings for his wife, Donna. Morrie is a woodturner who is often gifted with exotic downed trees which he lets dry naturally in the great outdoors then cuts and shapes into beautifully crafted vessels. His ability to inlay turquoise and other stones into the organically created fissures is masterful.

Yesterday, Nancy, my good friend and a devoted collector, stopped in wearing one of my heart pendants. The heart symbol represents the center of emotion – of love and affection – so it’s no wonder that so many are attracted to the heart shaped stones that I often use as the focal point of my original works of wearable art.

Earrings have been quite popular! Lightweight and the perfect length in either silver or copper or a combo of silver & copper – such a great look with short hair. All in all – eight pairs were sold yesterday in addition to the custom set I created – sterling silver with freshwater pearls.

Cindi selected “Collett”, a pendant of geometric design in copper and sterling silver for herself and completed the look with sterling silver earrings.

In 1964 I married Tom Turner and settled in Ellensburg, WA. It was here that my interest and love for Native American Indian culture originated. Largely self-taught – over a 14-year period, I learned traditional beading techniques from the elder women of the Yakima Tribe. Yesterday, one of my favorites, “Vaquero Espanola” was acquired by a very pleased art patron.

Just a few weeks ago, I created “Waves Of The Heart” featuring an exceptional Hubei Turquoise shaped by master stone cutter Jason Brousseau, NM. Yesterday, it stole the heart of a wearable art appreciator who happily slipped it onto her own leather cord.

GREAT GUESTS became COLLECTORS during HITH first weekend

The first weekend of the Tour brought so many art enthusiasts to High Desert Creations Studio #12. Happy collectors acquired pieces of original contemporary Western/Southwestern works of wearable art. On the first day  I wore this gorgeous Sonoran Desert Sunrise stone cut by Russ Kaniuth and right away a visitor fell in love with it so I took it from around my neck and put it on her – just shows you can’t go wrong with hearts and stars.

The Wonder Of It All" Pendant – classic with a little Southwest Twist featuring a gorgeous Kingman Turquoise stone cut by Jason Brousseau, NM and set in sterling silver elicited the following from Fronnie Bealer ~ “You are walking along in the desert leaving some footprint (the little scrolls on the sides) when you serendipitously come upon a narrow lake, which offers refreshment for body and soul. I love the splash of turquoise.”

"Following Destiny" combines two pieces of nature – a freshwater pearl and a Utah Septarian stone cut by Jeff Hansen, AZ – set in mixed metals: sterling silver and copper. Jo E. Caruso says ~ “That is more than incredible. I love the freshwater pearl addition. Just beautiful!!! I just had to share with you how this piece affected me when I received it. "All Things Natural" found a new home right here in Winnemucca. Thank you, Carolyn Dufurrena, with your Geology back ground, this piece is right for you, and when I say you rock, you literally rock. 

"All Things Natural" is a real statement piece! Set in a 100% copper circle is a natural opalized Ammonite, a natural freshwater Pearl, a natural Korite Opal with a natural copper splash and several sterling silver drops. The pendant hangs from 18 inches of natural Madagascar Coral Beads. Lots of thought went into this piece, trying to compliment these awesome beads.
