I thought you would like to see where my kids went to school and graduated from.
Tom and I raised our 2 children in our cattle ranches located in the very remote high desert area of Southeastern Oregon. When they reached high school age we had to enroll them in Crane Union High School, a boarding school about 40 minutes from the ranch.
In 2002 the size of its attendance boundary was 7,700 square miles (20,000 km2), an area that was about the same size as that of Massachusetts. Students from the surrounding ranches still attend Crane Union High School from as far away as 150 miles (240 km).
Crane Union is one of the oldest public boarding schools in the country.
The number of students that attend the school has fluctuated over the years, from 63 students in 1950, to 97 students in 2002, 98 in 2020. In 2002 100% of the students received a high school diploma and most students went on to Universities and Colleges. My two children did extremely well at the school.
Just a small view into the life of ranching families and how different it is from more populated parts of the US!
